Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 August 2026

Animal Majority ("we", "us") operates animalmajority.com and petition pages hosted on partner domains. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how it is used and shared, and the rights you have over it — including rights under the UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA (CCPA), and, for email and text messaging, CAN-SPAM and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

What we collect

When you sign a petition we collect: first name, last name, email address, postcode/ZIP code, country, and — if you choose to provide it — a mobile/cell phone number. We also record your IP address, browser information, the petitions you sign, the exact consent wording you were shown, and whether you ticked the opt-in box. If you allow it, we store your details in your browser (localStorage) so future forms are pre-filled; you can clear this at any time in your browser settings.

Some organisations use analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel) on their petition pages. In the UK/EU we ask for your consent before setting any analytics cookies, and we record your choice; strictly necessary cookies (such as your session) are always set. You can change your mind by clearing cookies for this site.

How your data is used and shared

Your signature is delivered to the organisation(s) sponsoring the petition you signed. If you tick the opt-in box, we share your first name, last name, email address, postcode/ZIP code and mobile/cell number (if provided) with the sponsoring organisation(s) named next to the box at the moment you sign, so they can send you occasional action opportunities by email, phone call or text. Each organisation processes your data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy, and you can unsubscribe from any of them at any time. If you do not tick the box, your details are shared only as necessary to deliver the petition itself and are not used for marketing.

We never sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Partner organisations

Depending on which petitions you sign and consent to, your data may be shared with one or more of the organisations currently using Animal Majority:

  • Animal Majority
  • Animal Welfare Investigations Project

This list is kept up to date as organisations join or leave the platform. Only the organisation(s) named on the specific petition you sign — in the consent statement itself — receive your details.

Lawful basis (GDPR)

For UK/EU residents: we process signature data on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for marketing sharing, and our legitimate interest in operating a petition platform (Art. 6(1)(f)) for delivering the petition, fraud prevention and platform security. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting your signature.

Supporter profiling and engagement scoring

Partner organisations may combine the actions you take with them on this platform — petitions signed, survey answers, event registrations and attendance, and donations — into internal engagement scores that help them prioritise how they contact their supporters (for example, deciding whom to call or email first). This profiling is carried out under the organisation's legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in communicating effectively with its supporters. Scores are used only for internal prioritisation of communications: they produce no legal or similarly significant effects, are never used to deny you anything, and are not shared with or sold to third parties beyond the organisation's own systems (such as its CRM). You may object to this profiling at any time by emailing privacy@animalmajority.com.

Email, calls and text messaging

Marketing emails you receive from partner organisations must comply with CAN-SPAM: they will identify the sender and include a working unsubscribe mechanism. Text messages are only sent to numbers provided with opt-in consent; message and data rates may apply, frequency varies, and you can opt out by replying STOP to any message. Numbers provided with opt-in consent may also be used for calls about campaigns and appeals; you can ask not to be called again at any time during any call, or by emailing us. We ask for mobile/cell numbers only — landlines cannot receive texts.

Your rights

Everyone: you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and withdraw marketing consent, by emailing privacy@animalmajority.com.

UK/EU (GDPR): you additionally have rights to restrict or object to processing, data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).

California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect and share (as described in this policy), to request deletion or correction, to opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising (we do not do this), and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell personal information. Categories collected: identifiers (name, email, IP), geolocation (ZIP code), and contact details (phone number).

Retention and security

Signature records are retained while the relevant campaign and consent records need to be evidenced, then deleted or anonymised. Data is stored on servers with encryption in transit (HTTPS) and restricted access. Suppression lists uploaded by organisations contain only irreversible hashes, never raw email addresses.
